40 Days of Compassion

The Passionate Pursuit of Unity

I haven’t gotten much sleep this week and tonight as I was contemplating what to write for today’s 40 Days entry, I felt extremely tired.

“How am I going to write tonight? I’m beat down!”

I heard the snorty inhalation of my roommate’s pug and turned to see Gizmo lounging cozily on my pillows. I laid down and rested my head near his. He grunted quietly and licked my forehead. His breath wasn’t the greatest, but I didn’t care. Gizmo had shown me just a little tenderness and it killed me. Can you imagine? I was floored. This lazy little dog just broke right into my heart and said, “You look tired. But you’ll be ok.”

I was treated with kindness by a dog who sets the bar pretty high for compassionate living.

What a powerful, yet gentle reminder that the love of the Father shines from the most unassuming places in our lives. How can I respond to His love in any way other than by giving it away. I surely can’t stockpile it.

But I must say that I am indeed exhaustivo. Until the morrow, fellows & ladies.

  1. Mike, my roomie’s cat (who I’ve dubbed Talon) has the same effect on me! Whenever I need to tap into some compassionate juju we-ness, I put my head on his torso and tell him I love him. It actually works!
